Six Ways to Make Working Out Fun Again

Have you fallen out of love with the gym? It is easily done! No matter how determined you are, you feel bored and uninspired by your workout sessions. Sound familiar? If so, don’t fret; simply read on to discover some suggestions on how you can make working out fun again.

  1. Buddy Up – One of the best ways to give your exercise sessions a boost is to partner up with a friend or your other half. Research indicates that people are five times more likely to workout if their spouse does. Not only will it make your workouts more fun, but you will both motivate each other to workout when you aren’t feeling up to it. If you can’t be bothered to hit the gym, your partner will encourage you to do so, and vice versa.
  2. Head outside – You don’t need to be in the gym to exercise. Why not replace one gym session a week with an outdoor exercise? This could be anything from a run, to cycling, to doing some yoga in a nearby park. Being outside enriches your experience, and you will get some enjoyment out of your workout by doing something new.
  3. Make a gym playlist – Maybe it’s your playlist that needs a revamp and not your workout? The right music can get you in the mood, and the beat of your music can also impact how you synchronize your workout. If you are doing stretches, look for music with 90 to 100 beats per minute. If you are doing agility, speed, and endurance exercises, choose music that has more than 120 beats per minute. For strength exercises, 110 to 120 beats per minute is ideal. And, finally, during your warm-up, choose music with 100 to 110 beats per minute.
  4. Go to a class – Why not try a gym class to add some variety to your workout? Spinning classes are exceptionally popular. Instead of hitting the exercise in the gym by yourself, you will be in a darkened room, with colored lights, loud music, and a bunch of people. Or why not join Zumba fitness dance class? Dance classes are a great way to combine fun and fitness.
  5. Use a fitness app – Fitness apps are great for tracking your progress and giving you useful insights, which will make you feel more motivated. There are also plenty of apps that feature workout videos, so it is like having your own personal trainers. Take a look at this blog post for more information on smart exercise with a smartphone.

  6. Set up a reward system for yourself – Everyone deserves to be rewarded for their hard work, but this doesn’t mean you should have a slice of pizza or a glass of champagne once you have reached your gym targets. Instead, choose rewards that won’t undo all of your hard work, for example, treat yourself to a new item of clothing or pamper yourself with a manicure. If you know that you are only three hours away from a new pair of shoes, you are definitely going to be more encouraged to workout, and you will enjoy it knowing the reward at the end too.
